It isn’t official yet, but yesterday I took a look at Debian 12, and I have to say that I kind of miss that DE setup, especially the GNOME DE. I mean, I will always prefer KDE Plasma when it comes to desktop environments, but there’s something about GNOME that takes me back to January 5th (which I know wasn’t that long ago) when I tried Linux for the first time. I remember how impressed I was with the GUI because I always had this idea that Linux was too basic, and I was seriously expecting something like Windows XP. Boy, was I wrong! I fell in love with the GNOME DE even before I learned anything about customizing it! It was the first time I liked software in its default settings, and believe me, that is so rare.

Anyways, the only thing stopping me from actually installing Debian on my hardware now is space. I have a 112 GB SSD, and this is the output of lsblk for me:

[Seth@archlinux ~]$ lsblk
NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINTS
sda 8:0 0 111.8G 0 disk
├─sda1 8:1 0 450M 0 part
├─sda2 8:2 0 100M 0 part
├─sda3 8:3 0 16M 0 part
├─sda4 8:4 0 4G 0 part [SWAP]
├─sda5 8:5 0 82G 0 part /
├─sda6 8:6 0 24.6G 0 part
├─sda7 8:7 0 549M 0 part
└─sda8 8:8 0 100M 0 part /boot/efi

As you can see, I have around 25 GB for Windows, and the rest is all taken up by my beloved Arch Linux. Even though I completely moved to Linux months ago, I still have to keep Windows around for school stuff and Visual Studio, and probably some gaming every now and then.

Still, I love Arch, and I love window managers (WMs), and I don’t think I’m going to be leaving either of these two anytime soon. But sometimes, change is required, and for now, I’m not completely sure whether to replace Windows with Debian or just allocate a portion of the Arch partition to install it there.

Thank you so much for joining me today. Until we meet again, take care, my friend. Farewell.

Seth.
